Sofía Balbuena

Sofía Balbuena was born in Salto, Buenos Aires Province, in 1984. She holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires, an MA in Creative Writing from Pompeu Fabra University, and an MA in Comparative Literature from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is the author of the nonfiction book Doce pasos hacia mí (Twelve Steps Toward Myself), published in Argentina and Chile in 2022, and Borracha menor (Drunk Minor), released in Spain in 2024. Her short stories, essays, and poems have appeared in literary journals in the United States, Mexico, and Argentina.

In 2022, she was awarded the Iowa Arts Fellowship to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Iowa, from which she graduated in May 2024. She works as a reader, editor, and literary scout, and teaches writing and reading workshops. She lives in Madrid.
