Mónica Lavín

Mónica Lavín is the author of short story collections, novels, and essays. She has received the Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize for her short story collection Ruby Tuesday No Ha Muerto, the Colima Prize for Fiction for her novel Café cortado, and the Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Prize for Yo, la peor, a novel about Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and her time. Her most recent works include the short story anthology ¿A qué volver? (Tusquets, 2018), and the novels Todo sobre nosotras (Planeta, 2019) and Últimos días de mis padres (Planeta, 2022). She also wrote the libretto for an opera about Sor Juana, La sed de los cometas, which premiered in September 2022. Lavín is a cultural columnist for El Universal, a professor and researcher at the Literary Creation Academy of the Autonomous University of Mexico City, a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Colima, and a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators.
