The Blessings

Raw with postpartum fatigue, a new mother becomes fixated on Diana, the apartment’s previous owner, who didn’t just sell the place but tried to leave behind the wreckage of her life– especially the aftermath of a toxic, violent bond with her son Lorenzo, who has now vanished without a trace. Fed by a neighbor’s insistent gossip and fragments of “what really happened,” the narrator starts to investigate. She compares Diana’s motherhood to her own and fears what she might become.

She crosses lines, hides discoveries, and rewrites clues, while her husband grows wary of her unraveling. Their home becomes fraught with tension: caregiving and distrust transforms a sleep-deprived couple increasingly tense and claustrophobic, and obsession holds up a mirror: is she already walking the same path that her predecessor tried so desperately to leave behind?
