The news upends the plans of Cibelia Ree, a former History student and bassist in a rock band who was supposed to take a crucial flight that very day. 

For years, Ree has pursued a singular goal: to discover the sound that allows people to establish an intimate connection with a song’s harmony. As she moves closer to that revelation, her life becomes intertwined with the music of Jeff Tweedy and the story of Antonio Meucci, the Italian engineer who designed the first prototype of the telephone in 1854.
